What’s the best way to travel from Barcelona to Madrid without hopping on a plane?

Apparently the AVE only takes 2 1/2 hours, but I hear it’s very expensive! Unfortunately I can’t travel by plane because I have a fear of flying. Is there a coach service, and how long would it take?

You don’t need to take the AVE high speed train, you could just use the slower service. Check out times and costs on the following website in English. It will be a heck of a lot quicker than the bus.

    Soooo. the slower trains!

Coach? uf! I wouldn’t bother! Take a train. You are right, though. The AVE is pretty pricey.

I agree with the other. The AVE is great and fast, but can be expensive unless you book online and well in advance – but it only takes 2 hours and 45 minutes.

Otherwise there is a bus company called ALSA that has regular bus service between Madrid and Barcelona – Single ticket around 30 to 45 euros depending on day and time.

    Find ALSA here

    Have a nice trip.
